Attendance Award!

It is essential for pupils to attend school regularly and punctually to ensure continuity and progress in their learning; promote social inclusion; and enable them to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

Our school’s target for attendance is 96% and this week we were awarded the Attendance Award.

Congratulations Freshwater Class!

Film Festival Cinema Treat!

Year 6 visited “Cineworld” this morning, to watch “Johnny English Strikes Again” as part of The Into Film Festival.

The seventh annual film festival features eight screenings, with a variety of films for primary and secondary school students. There are more than 3,000 screenings throughout the Country, making this festival one of the world’s largest free film galas!

ICT: G-Suite Film Production

ICT this week, saw us continuing with producing our own films and using some of the techniques we witnessed at “Harry Potter Studios”.

We also began to think about the editing of our films – trimming our clips to ensure the flow of the film and adding some music to enhance the mood.

The Technological Magic of “Harry Potter Studios”!

This week, the whole of Year 6 were thrilled to be visiting “Harry Potter Studios”.

Within our ICT lessons we have been learning to use Google’s G-Suite so that we could become film makers. Including trimming and arranging clips, using music to enhance the mood and even applying green screen effects.

With this in mind, “Harry Potter Studios” seemed a very good place to start!

Studying film making and visual effects at such close quarters was ideal for inspiring our creativity within our own films.

Design Technology for the Birds!

Our brief this term was to design a bird box.

Having first researched the type of bird that chose our gardens as it’s habitat, we spent that first three lessons planning and preparing, ensuring our measurements were accurate.

This is the second week of being able to put our measuring abilities to the test and begin the practical construction – beginning with sawing the wood!

Isle of Wight Literary Festival – Author Visit

In conjunction with the Isle of Wight Literary Festival, KS2 were lucky enough to have a visit from “Spangles McNasty” author – Steve Webb.

He spoke about the ideas that inspired his series and the process that his books go through to reach publication.

Finishing with choosing four children to sing a song from one of his books. And Esra from Freshwater Class was extremely pleased to be chosen!

The Tree of Life

In Art, we have been studying the Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt – a prominent member of the Art Nouveau movement.

We took inspiration from his famous work ” The Tree of Life”, creating some rather wonderful pieces of our own. We compared the shading within our black and white interpretations to the bold and bright colours of the tinted pieces.

Tremendous Top Trumps

After having to stay inside during wet play last week, Samuel decided to create his own sailing Top Trump cards.

They were packed with detail, each with an accurate photograph of the relevant boat and he had even laminated them!

Very impressive Samuel!

Custard Cream Tectonic Plates…

Within Geography, Year 6 have been studying the three different types of Tectonic Plates: divergent boundary, transform boundary and convergent plates.

To simulate the different plate movements, the children re-created them using custard creams!

Of course it meant eating the evidence afterwards…
